According to reports in Broadcast magazine, BT and TalkTalk are intending to sell the internet-connected TV service YouView for less than £100.
The YouView partners are hoping to see the box for as little as possible as part of plans to bundle the service into broadband deals for new and current customers.
It is suggested that Lord Sugar, YouView’s chairman, is behind proposals to keep the cost as low as possible in order to quickly establish the service as a competitor for Sky and Virgin Media.
Without the bundle offer, it is likely that the box is going to retail for nearer £200.
There are concerns in the industry that YouView may have missed the boat, following its delayed launch, with both Virgin Media’s Ian Mecklenburgh and Google chairman Eric Shmidt mentioning the service’s delays at August’s MGEITF.
