ITC Announces Channel 4 Payments To ITV
The ITC has announced that, due to the terms of the Broadcasting Act 1990, Channel 4 is to pay £74.0m to the ITC for distribution to the ITV licensees.
Under the terms of the act, where Channel 4’s revenue exceeds 14% of its total terrestrial television qualifying revenue, the surplus has to be divided with 50% being paid to the ITV licensees, 25% into a reserve fund of the Channel 4 Corporation, and the remaining 25% being available to the Channel for current expenditure.
The ITC determined that for 1995 Channel 4’s revenue was £448.0m and on this basis the channel must pay ITV licensees £74.2m, and £37.1m is to be placed in Channel 4’s reserve fund.
