Demand for personalised viewing fuels VOD growth

The global over-the-top subscription video on-demand market will be worth almost $8 billion by 2017 and will deliver content to more than 120 million subscribers, according to a new report from MRG.

The figures, reported by Rapid TV News, represent a growing consumer demand for a personalised viewing experience the report’s authors claim.

North America is the most developed market for SVOD with more than 25 OTT service providers recorded in 2013 – a 50% increase on 2012.

Western Europe follows, accounting for 11% of the global OTT SVOD market in 2012 with seven million subscriptions and annual revenue of $575 million.

MRG estimates that overall, worldwide OTT SVOD subscriptions reached 66 million in 2012 and generated annual revenue of $4.7 billion.
