Virgin Radio Joins Digital One Network
Virgin Radio has jumped on board the country’s only national digital radio multiplex, Digital One (see Radio Authority Awards Digital Radio Multiplex To Sole Applicant), to broadcast alongside the other two national commercial stations, Classic FM and Talk Radio. Digital One has also announced the launch date of Monday 15 November 1999 for a number of stations on the 10 channel network.
Virgin’s contract with Digital One also qualifies the station to renew its national analogue licence for a further eight years. Commenting on the contract, Virgin Radio chief executive, John Pearson, said: “Virgin is totally committed to digital radio and the benefits it will bring to our listeners. We are tremendously excited by the possibilities of this new broadcast technology for audiences and advertisers.”
Details of the launch services are to be announced by Digital One shortly.
