The editor of the News of the World, Phil Hall, has quit his position today. He will be replaced by Rebekah Wade, currently deputy editor of the Sun, with immediate effect.
No reason for his departure has so far been given. Les Hinton, executive chairman of News International, which owns the paper, issued a statement of regret at his departure.
