Channel Television Sold In £16.3m Deal

Channel Television has been sold to a management buy-in team for £16.3 million. Media Holdings is to take over the ITV licensee for the Channel Islands in a deal which also includes Creative Channel, the TV production business which is a subsidiary of Channel Television Ltd.

The new owners of the company include former directors from HTV: Huw Davies, formerly group director of television at the franchise, will become the new chief executive, and David Jenkins its finance director. Michael Lucas, managing director of Channel TV since 1997, will oversee the local programme service.

Chairman of Channel Television Group, Tom Scott, said, “This deal is clearly in the best interest of our shareholders and, at the same time, secures existing staff arrangements and the quality of the local service for viewers.”

The directors have agreed to propose a change of name for the company and Huw Davies announced his future plans today. “Michael Lucas and his team are doing an excellent job in providing the Channel Islands’ television service, and we do not plan to make any changes. We do intend to grow the production arm of the company and to make Channel Television, and, if we can, the Channel Islands themselves, into an important base for production, not only for the British Isles but for the world market,” he said.
