Sky Subscribers Pass Eight Million
Satellite giant BSkyB this morning announced subscribers of more than eight million, surpassing its targets to reach record levels of direct-to-home (DTH) customers.
“Sky is achieving strong growth,” explained James Murdoch, Sky’s chief executive. “Nearly one in three homes and counting have chosen Sky and we are especially well placed to broaden Sky’s appeal as entertainment and communications come together.
“We thank our current and future Sky customers for joining in and for helping to make Britain one of the world’s leading digital TV marketplaces.”
The new subscriber levels put Sky on target to achieve its 2010 forecasts of 10 million DTH customers, with 25% penetration of Sky+ and 30% Multiroom penetration.
In addition to its increased customer numbers, Sky also announced that its offer for internet provider Easynet has been declared unconditional as to acceptances. Last week saw the company announce that it had secured 88.18% of the telecoms firm, bringing its complete acquisition a step closer (see Sky Close To Completing EasyNet Deal).
