Ofcom Reveals Swindon Radio Bidders

SUBtv Ofcom has revealed the shortlisted bidders for the new FM licence in the Swindon area, with Moonraker FM, Now FM, Radio Swindon and Swindon FM all having applied for the rights to broadcast to the region’s adult population of 150,000.

The exact coverage of the new station will be determined by the location of its transmitter and other technical characteristics, but the new service will go head to head with existing stations such as GCap-owned Fox FM and GWR FM as well as two Classic Gold-branded stations.

All four bidders for the new licence have pledged to provide the area with local news and music, as well as catering for the region’s older listeners, with broad target age ranges above 25 years old.

A decision by Ofcom on the winning bidder is expected within the month. In the meantime the regulator has continued to advertise new radio licences, most recently inviting bids for the Ipswich FM licence, serving an audience of between 200,000 and 250,000 adults (see Ofcom Opens Bidding On Ipswich FM Licence).
