Chrysalis Radio sales is to implement a ground-breaking restructure of its commercial operations, which will see sales groups aligned with media and advertising agency holding company groups.
In what is a first for the radio industry, teams from Chrysalis Radio’s airtime sales division and sponsorship and promotions division will be brought together to create mixed discipline units offering a full range of communication services.
The reshape, taking effective from 1 September, was implemented after extensive industry consultation. It will see the formation of three parallel sales groups within Chrysalis Radio sales, each aligned primarily to agency groups such as WPP’s Group M, Publicis, Omnicom and Interpublic Group.
The changes are designed to forge deeper relationships with advertisers and connect them with Chrysalis Radio sales’ range of brands, which include Heart, Galaxy, LBC and The Arrow.
Other brands to benefit from the major reorganisation are GMG stations Smooth FM and Real Radio, together with recent addition to the portfolio, Original 106 FM, which will broadcast in the Solent region from the autumn.
The initiative will also see the appointment of three London sales directors, each running one of the three sales groups in addition to three account directors and group heads.
John Legg, Siobhan Smullen and Richard Brinkman will be the new London sales directors, who between them will be responsible for running all aspects of the national sales team. All three have been with Chrysalis for several years and the company says their promotion is much deserved.
The restructure coincides with the departure of Chrysalis Radio sales former managing director Gerard Bridges.
Don Thomson, Chrysalis Radio commercial director, said: “These changes will not only offer brand advertisers and agencies a single, more flexible and creative point of service, they will enhance the range of opportunities for the fantastically talented commercial teams we have at Chrysalis Radio.
“We believe our initiative will set the agenda for the industry.”
The restructuring follows recent developments in the company which will see it launch a bespoke podcast production service, Chrysalis Content, allowing companies to produce their own tailored audio programmes (see Chrysalis Announces Bespoke Podcast Service).
