Capital Radio Gets Name Change And Ad Campaign

Capital Radio Logo GCap Media has rebranded Capital Radio as Capital 95.8 – The Sound Of London, and will tonight launch a television advertising campaign.

The ad is Capital’s first major TV push in over a year and will promote the rebrand which sees the station’s logo change to an amp volt in the shape of the River Thames.

The rebrand comes as reports in the trade press claim that the station’s morning show co-presenter, Zoe Hanson, is set to leave the show.

Capital last underwent a rebrand in January 2006, changing its name from Capital FM to Capital Radio and shifting its music policy to offer less repetition and fewer advertisements (see Capital Radio Returns Following Rebrand).

The latest RAJAR figures showed that Capital was outperformed by both Heart 106.2 and Magic in London, with a weekly reach of 1.4 million and share of listening at 4.7%. Heart recorded the highest weekly reach, share of listening and hours per listener amongst the commercial FM stations in the capital (see Heart 106.2 FM Retains Top Spot In London).

On a busy day for the station, tonight also sees the first broadcast of ex-Kiss DJ Bam Bam’s new show, which airs Monday to Friday from 7pm-10pm (see Bam Bam Joins Capital 95.8).

In addition to all of this, yesterday Capital 95.8 revealed another star-name DJ, as Myleene Klass, a former contestant on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, unveiled her new Sunday night show.
