6.4m watch Liverpool humble Madrid

Liverpool V Real Madrid A peak of 6.4 million viewers – a 25.5% share of the audience – tuned in to ITV1 last night to see Liverpool thoroughly outplay Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.

An average of five million viewers watched the football coverage, from 7.30pm to 10pm, which ended with Liverpool beating the Spanish team 4-0.

It was the third highest rated programme on terrestrial television last night, beaten only by Emmerdale, with 6.8 million and BBC One’s EastEnders, with a peak of 8.7 million viewers.

Also on BBC One, at 9pm, was Mistresses, with the latest instalment of the classy relationship drama picking up a peak of 4.1 million viewers.

It followed straight on from medical soap Holby City, which managed to grab a pretty impressive peak of 5.6 million.

Madcap chef Heston Blumenthal was on Channel 4 at 9pm and it was a pretty average performance by the freaky food-meister, with a peak of 2.8 million checking out his latest culinary delight, this week featuring a Medieval twist.

Over on Five, meanwhile, the latest series of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation continued to pack ’em in. A peak of 3.5 million viewers sat down to watch the latest mystery unfold.
