ITV Transfer Blackburn For Glasgow Rangers
ITV has decided to switch coverage of its next UEFA Champion’s League football from English Premiership Champions Blackburn Rovers to Scottish Premier Division Champions Glasgow Rangers. With Blackburn almost certain not to qualify for the knockout stage of the cup it was decided that there might be a greater audience for the Rangers match.
ITV Sport’s Head of Football Jeff Farmer said “We have had the two biggest audiences for live football this season watching Blackburn’s first two games in the Champion League. Both audiences peaked at over 9 million. Rangers will be our main game on October 18th because we feel it will have wider appeal for the UK football audience, given the added interest of Paul Gascoigne’s return from Italy.”
Future plans for Champions League coverage will be announced following the games.
