Spirits To Be Advertised On Television

The Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre has announced that it has now received a formal submission of a script for a television ad for a branded spirit. This confirms that the drinks industry’s self-imposed prohibition on television advertising of this product category has now ended.

The BACC has advised that it will give consideration to any proposals for television advertising of spirits brands, and that the ITC ruling which prohibited spirits advertising no longer applies from June 1, 1995. This also affects liqueurs, which, provided that “suitable restraints on over-consumption” are observed, the requirements that liqueurs can only be advertised in an “after-meal” setting also no longer apply.
