Mediaedge:cia Appoints George As First UK CEO

Mediaedge:cia (MEC), the WPP-owned media network, has shaken up its UK management team and named Tom George as its first UK CEO.

George will now take responsibility for all aspects of the MEC UK business including sponsorship, interaction and MEC Manchester.

Toby Jenner and Steve Hatch now become joint managing directors and Stuart Sullivan-Martin is appointed as chief strategy officer.

The agency has performed well this year and brought on board new clients including Transport for London, Nintendo, Blockbuster and Danone. The agency won the £31 million Danone dairy and mineral water business last month after a pitch.

George was recruited as managing director from the position of deputy managing director at ZenithOptimedia in 2004. He started his media career at DFS Dorland and joined Zenith as group manager in 1988.

George said: “The restructure of the management team together with the senior appointments we have made and will continue to make is designed to further strengthen our positioning for 2007 onwards.”

The company restructured operations in July, splitting its Investment Division into broadcast and non-broadcast departments (see Mediaedge:cia Undergoes Restructure).
