Re-Shuffle At GWR

GWR has announced some reshuffles in its management ranks following its consortium – Digital One – being awarded the national commercial digital radio licence multiplex by the Radio Authority (see Newsline).

Programme director Steve Orchard also becomes operations director of UK local radio. Orchard is to focus on developing local programming and commercial activities. He commented on GWR’s local stations: “They are the life and blood of the GWR group and the focus of the new operation’s director role will be very much on taking our stations to further growth in preparation for radio’s third age, the digital age.”

Sales and marketing director Simon Ward becomes commercial director. Three key new posts for GWR’s regional managing directors and enhanced roles for present directors Robert O’Dowd and Wayne Lowery have also come about.

Ralph Bernard, chief executive at GWR, said of the shuffling: “After the most detailed strategic review ever undertaken by GWR, we have decided on a number of new appointments and revised responsibilities which will be key to achieving our objectives.”
