GWR has agreed a deal with NTL Home to broadcast five of its digital radio stations over the NTL digital cable network.
The deal will make Classic FM, Core, Planet Rock, The Storm and The Mix available to an extra 1.2 million potential listeners.
Simon Ward, GWR’s new media and digital director, commented: “Given that our aim is to connect our brands to consumers in all ways that appeal to them, this will make perfect sense and will only increase the availability of our brands, audience reach and audience share.”
A recent consumer study published by IPSOS and Continental Research claims that 3 million people currently listen to digital radio every week. Research commissioned by regional digital radio consortium, MXR, also suggests that listeners prefer DAB Digital radio to traditional analogue radio (see Research Shows Digital Radio Is The Preferred Choice).
National commercial digital radio network, Digital One, recently is launched an in-store promotion of DAB Digital Radio in an attempt to increase take-up (see Digital One Launches Retail Promotion).
