Schoonmaker Steps Down As Emap Performance Boss

Chief executive of Emap Performance, Tim Schoonmaker, has announced his intention to step down after more than a decade at the helm of the UK radio and digital television division.

Schoonmaker will continue his association with Emap and from March will work as a consultant to the company in the development of its digital radio and music television interests, which include the Kiss, Smash Hits and Kerrang! brands.

Over the last ten years, Schoonmaker has been instrumental in leading Emap’s emergence as a major force in the UK commercial radio market. Most recently he has been at the forefront of the expansion in cross-media brand creation and has overseen the launch of eight music radio stations on the Freeview platform (see Emap Hots Up With Launch Of Heat Radio On Freeview).

Chief executive of Emap, Tom Molony, said: “Tim’s decision to move on is clearly a significant moment for the group, but I am delighted we have been able to retain the benefit of Tim’s knowledge and experience. His advice will be invaluable at what is a pivotal time for Emap in digital radio and music TV.”

Schoonmaker will step down from his current position with imediate effect and the search for his replacement will begin shortly. A spokesperson for Emap confirmed that both internal and external candidates will be considered for the role.

Last October Emap Performance appointed Marcus Rich, formerly managing director of FHM Worldwide, to the newly created position of managing director with responsibility for Emap’s portfolio of rock, pop and dance music magazines (see Emap Performance Appoints Rich As New Managing Director).
