Life On Mars Eclipses Celebrity Showdown

Life On Mars Last night saw a clash of the celebrities, as ITV’s Soapstar Superstar went head to head with Channel 4’s Big Brother, but both were floored by BBC One’s time-travelling detective drama, Life On Mars.

The BBC drama scored an average adult audience of 6.8 million, while ITV drew 5.7 million and Channel 4 attracted 3.5 million.

Channel 4 saw a better performance in the 16-34 audience, however, attracting 1.7 million viewers on average to beat ITV and the BBC, with audiences of 1.1 million each.

Elsewhere, Five’s science fiction film, The Matrix, drew the channel’s largest audience of the evening, at 1.5 million adults on average tuning in. BBC Two also saw success with its language programme, Balderdash and Piffle, notching up average adult viewers numbering 2.7 million.
