Mistresses finale pulls in the highest ratings

BBC One’s final Mistresses attracted the highest ratings during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-hour last night, with more than 4.1 million viewers and a 17.6% average audience share.

The last episode in the second series of the drama, based around a group of four female friends and their often-eventful love lives, came to a dramatic cliff-hanger ending last night, leaving viewers wanting more and perhaps suggesting that the BBC has a third series planned.

Elsewhere, ITV1’s Holloway – the second episode in the three part documentary series about life in north London’s women’s prison – attracted more than 4 million peak viewers and a 16.8% share.

Five’s ever-popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation came a close third place in the ratings war with 3.3 million peak viewers and a 14% share, while Channel 4’s Heston’s Roman Feast picked up 2.1 million viewers and a 9.2% share.

Meanwhile, BBC Two’s long-running Horizon, titled ‘Why Can’t We Predict Earthquakes?’, pulled in just over 2 million average viewers and a 8.9% share during the peak hour.

Earlier on in the evening, ITV1’s Emmerdale managed to pip BBC One’s Eastenders to the top soap spot with 7 million peak viewers and a 29.9% share, compared with Eastenders‘ 6.9 million peak viewers and 29.4% share.
