Apple’s iPhone 4 comes under fire

Apple’s latest iPhone model has come under fire within days of its UK release.

The iPhone 4G has generated criticism on YouTube and Twitter, with complaints over faulty handsets and a loss of signal due to problems with the external antenna band.

Apple reportedly responded to the complaints, saying “gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone”.

“If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.”

One consumer posted a video on YouTube with a demonstration showing that if you hold the handset as most people would, the reception drops down to zero.

Other complaints include discolouration on the high resolution screen as well as a “useless” video recorder, which doesn’t allow people to upload a video directly to Facebook.

However, despite some negative reviews, other consumers have still deemed it “the phone of 2010”.
