The MediaTel Group “Internet Comes to TV 3” event in association with Rovi yesterday provided a brief perspective on the connected TV market in Germany.
Jon Hewson, advertising business director EMEA, Rovi, stated that the German market lends itself very well to the adoption of connected TVs as consumers are used to receiving cable piped directly into their TV sets and there is a less of a set top box culture in Germany.
Also German viewers don’t adopt the subscription model in quite the same way as we do in the UK and appear to prefer to pay for what they use rather than the “all you can eat Chinese buffet” subscription model prevalent here.
The uptake of connected TVs in Germany is subsequently growing rapidly and Rovi have benefited via a number of deals with German advertisers as a direct result.
