Meta fined €390m by Data Protection Commission
In brief

Meta Ireland has been issued with two fines totalling €390m by the Irish Data Protection Commission for breaching EU GDPR rules when providing personalised services and behavioural advertising.

The two fines, one for €210m for breaches of GDPR on its Facebook services and the other for €180m for breaches in relation to its Instagram services, are the results from two inquiries made into complaints made on 25 May 2018, when GDPR regulation came into effect.

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) is closely aligned with the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).
