New Editor For The Independent

Andrew Marr has been appointed editor of The Independent, effective from 15th May 1996.

Having been part of the original launch team of the paper in 1986, he has since been the political editor at both The Scotsman and The Economist. He is currently The Independent’s chief political columnist.

Commenting on his appointment he said; “I can’t think of a more exciting job at a more exciting time…Over the next few years we will make it (The Independent) a showcase for the best of British journalism.”
