ITV Scores Retribution Over BBC

Trial And Retribution Cast ITV’s Trial and Retribution provided a massive lift to the broadcaster’s schedule last night, with the first part of the crime drama drawing an average of 8 million adult viewers.

The programme rounded off a night of success for ITV, following adult viewers in excess of 10 million for both episodes of Coronation Street, aired earlier in the evening.

The BBC also scored highly with its soap offering, Eastenders, which drew an average of 10.6 million as the Mitchell brothers’ return to the square and quest for their sister’s release from prison gathered pace.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Wife Swap saw impressive ratings, with 1.8 million adult viewers tuning in despite competition from Trial and Retribution and BBC One’s Much Ado About Nothing, which drew 4.3 million.

ITV will be hoping for similar success tonight, as the broadcaster airs the concluding part of Trial and Retribution against BBC One’s The Last Tommy, a two part documentary following World War One veterans.
