Michael Tomasky has been appointed as the editor of the Guardian‘s US website Guardian America.
The Washington based journalist starts his new role on May 7 and he will be charged with increasing the title’s online presence in North America, as well as enhancing the site’s news and front page.
The site’s front page will be American focused and its blogging network, Comment Is Free, will be expanded for the American audience.
The Press Gazette quoted Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger as saying: “We already have a substantial and growing US audience and Michael’s skills and experience will enable us to build on this success.”
Previously, Tomasky has been editor of liberal magazine American Prospect and has also worked for the New York Observer and The Village Voice.
