MailOnline is looking to open itself up to a global audience, and could soon begin operations in Toronto, Delhi and Sydney in an attempt to expand digital content.
Alongside this, plans are in motion to build on Associated Newspapers’ current operations in London, New York and Los Angeles, where 70 members of staff are currently employed.
It is rumoured that certain specialist writers have been approached to take on topic areas including health, while “heavyweights” currently employed at US papers could be tempted to join the MailOnline global push.
According to one source “it’s integration of some form or another”, with print reporters apparently having been informed last week by Daily Mail news editor, Ben Taylor, of opportunities to begin working on the online news side.
The Daily Mail is the world’s most visited newspaper website. ABC data from May 2012 showed that, despite a month-on-month fall of 43,000, MailOnline recorded daily average unique browsers of 5.6 million.
