IND: New Broadcasting Law

The Indian government law has approved a new, comprehensive broadcasting law. The law will set up an independent radio authority and make licences mandatory for all radio and television service providers. The proposed legislation will also grant autonomy to the country’s state-run media. Control over the media has been a contentious issue in India for several years, with foreign broadcasting companies complaining that the current regulation make it impossible for them to establish their own stations or to control frequencies.
