Submissions from major broadcasters, sports organisations and consumer and viewer groups have been received by the Independent Television Commission in response to its consultation on listed sports events.
The ITC is required to draw up a Code on Sports and Other Listed Events as part of the Broadcasting Act 1996 to protect certain sporting events for broadcasting on terrestrial television (*see ITC Publishes Code On Listed Sports Events) . The ITC will now take account of the comments received and intends to issue the Code in March.
Responses to the consultation came from, among others, the BBC, BSkyB, Channel 5, the Department of National Heritage and Channel 4.
