MTV To Announce New Channel Launch

MTV will announce this week that it will be launching two new music channels, one of which being aimed specifically at the UK. They are expected to be called MTV in the UK and M2: Music Television.

It has long been rumoured that MTV was considering some new channel launches *(MTV Planning New Channel) and the whole area of music television is thought to be an area for expansion due to the arrival of digital TV *(Two New Music Channels Set To Launch). As the name suggests MTV in the UK will be a channel dedicated to British viewers featuring presenters, programming and playlists selected especially for the region. It will replace MTV Europe, which currently serves the UK region, around August or September.

M2 would most likely offer indie-type music and more obscure tracks such as B-sides and remixes. It is understood that carriage has been secured on BSkyB’s multi-channel package which is due to launch next Autumn.
