There Is Still Only One Harrods

Harrods, the world famous department store, has won it’s High Court Case to stop it’s name being used without permission on the Internet.

Harrods instigated legal proceedings in August last year against Mr Michael Lawrie and others who had applied for, and were using, the Internet address, harrods.com. The High Court decided that the actions of Michael Lawrie and four associates “clearly constituted infringement of Harrods’ registered trade marks and passing off.”

Mr Justice Lightman granted an injunction ordering the defendants to take all available steps to hand over the domain name, or Internet address, to Harrods.

This ruling has proved that the Internet is not a lawless area. The case may set a precedent for similar cases.
