The Guardian Media Group has posted interim financial results which show a loss of £1.84 million in the six months to September.

Although trading profits were up 40.9% on last year at £17.9m the group suffered heavily as a result of the Docklands bombing and a rise in newsprint costs. The cost of moving the Guardian‘s printing facilities after the bombing was £14.4m while newsprint costs rose 24% to over £5.5m.

On a brighter note Harry Roche, group chairman, said that trading in the third quarter has been good and the fourth quarter is also expected to be good, with further investment in product development expected.
