ITV To Take A Gamble On The Lottery

Roger Laughton, Chairman of ITV’s broadcasting board announced on Sunday that ITV is hoping to bid for coverage of the National Lottery draw. Speaking on the BBC’s right to reply programme, Bite Back, Laughton said: “I am making it clear today that we are interested in covering the lottery in the future.”

The BBC’s 3 year contract expires in November. Roger Laughton told Newsline that ITV is very much in the running for the draw, though whether ITV is able to bid will depend on Camelot’s conditions of tender. Camelot could, in theory, simply renew the BBC’s contract.

Camelot, however, is rumoured to be interested in negotiating with ITV.
