RA Receives Applications For East London Licence
The Radio Authority has received eight applications for the new small-scale Independent Local licence to serve part of East London. The applicants for the FM, (VHF) waveband licence were;
ACTIVE FM LTD – (Andy Gombas, 0181 491 7710): a mixture of popular hit music from the past and the present, quality local news and information services and specialist music shows at weekends. Primarily serving the London Borough of Havering, but also Barking, Dagenham and the south east of Redbridge.
ASIA FM LTD – (Ahmer Kunwar 0181 472 7476): Designed to have cross-cultural appeal to local ethnic communities. Plan to use a blend of traditional and popular music together with informative and entertaining speech contact on local and regional issues. To cover the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and parts of neighbouring boroughs.
THE BREEZE FM (ILR LTD) – (Prof. Eric Moonman OBE 0171 607 7761): A local station for Redbridge, Havering and their environs, playing classic hit music from the 70’s to today, combined with local news and information.
DIL FM LONDON LTD – (Anees Mirza 0181 270 1854): Based on a broad format of contemporary Asian music allowing second generation Asians to celebrate their cultural heritage. Covering the boroughs of Newham, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge.
EAST LONDON BROADCASTING LTD – (Frank Gregory 0171 486 6262): Music, news, information, support, sport and discussion, relevant to the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, south Redbridge and Havering.
EASTERN LONDON RADIO – (Shahlab Baig 0181 553 2231): a local community radio station with Asian and other ethnic minority participation, for Redbridge and Newham.
LINK FM LTD – (Dave Butler 01708 251125) a music station catering for all tastes, with local information, travel and news to provide a local community and information service for the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham and Havering and the south of Redbridge.
STAR SOUND RADIO (EAST LONDON) LTD – (Tari Sian 0181 554 4182): local radio for the Asian community providing programmes in various dialects from the Indian Sub-continent, in the London Borough of Newham and surrounding boroughs.
This licence was offered for the provision of a service with coverage contained within the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking and Havering, eastern parts of Hackney and southern parts of Waltham Forest and Redbridge. As it is not possible, within the frequency resources available for this licence to serve the whole of this area, applicants had to indicate which part of the wider area they would aim to cover.
The Radio Authority hopes to announce its decision about the award of licence in the late Spring or early Summer.
….. After considering the proposals submitted by four applicants, the Radio Authority has offered the new Independent Local Radio licence on the FM (VHF) waveband to the Medway Towns of Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester to;
MEDWAY FM LTD – (David Rackham 01622 843191): Maximum local news, views and entertainment for the Medway towns.
This licence is designed to cover a more localised area than the existing ILR services provided by Invicta FM and Invicta SuperGold.
The licence will come into effect as soon as the Medway Fm Ltd begins broadcasting.
