The Independent‘s website enjoyed a 21% jump in traffic over July, according to data just released by ABC. The site, owned by Russian businessman Alexander Lebedev, enjoyed the biggest month on month jump out of all the national newspaper sites audited by ABC.
The Independent lost nearly 100,000 daily average unique browsers in June but still displayed signs of growth; although the least popular of the audited sites, it attracted nearly 750,000 unique browsers a day.
The MailOnline audience grew for the second month in a row and held its dominance over the online national newspaper market. The site saw a 4% rise in daily browsers MoM, totalling 6 million a day. The DMGT owned site is 2.6 million daily browers ahead of closest rival, The Guardian.
Elsewhere the website of The Telegraph increased the amount of daily browsers to 2.6 million, a MoM rise of 10.5%. The Sun was the only audited national newspaper site to see a fall in traffic throughout July; although the red top destination only fell by 0.2%, resulting in 1.5 million unique browsers a day.
