Student Media Habits
Graduate Consumers, a survey sponsored by MTV and conducted by High Fliers Research, has found that the ‘Class of 97’ are ambitious, materialistic individuals who are enthusiastic users of the latest technology and are strongly influenced by the media.
Over three quarters of finalists, 77%, watch BBC1 daily and two thirds saw ITV every day. Eastenders, Friends, Shooting Stars and the X Files are most students favourite programmes. While MTV was the most popular satellite channel.
Radio is also a popular media with students. Radio 1 was the most popular radio station, listened to by over 45% of students daily, except in London where Capital Radio had 23% of the audience. Radio 1 recorded 22% in London. When it came down to newspaper readership, The Times came out on top, while the majority of students, 74%, are regular users of the Internet.
