Liberty Latest
Following yesterday’s The End Of The Line For Liberty item, Liberty Broadcasting has clarified the situation regarding its 963 Liberty Radio station.
It says that unless the Radio Authority assists it in solving the station’s transmission difficulties as well as providing options for improving the distribution of the signal, the station may be forced to close. A spokesman for Liberty said that while this was not “imminent” it was an option that was being considered.
Liberty has also said that until the situation with 963 is resolved, it will not be investing in other radio or television companies as it had planned. To make matters worse for Liberty, Mike Hollingsworth, the company’s managing director, has “temporarily reduced his involvement in the company to pursue other activities.”
The Radio Authority however says that the licence was originally awarded for the 963 AM frequency and Liberty were fully aware of its coverage limitations when they purchased the licence. It says it has already given Liberty “a great deal of help” in trying to improve coverage and it will be meeting with the broadcaster to discuss “realistic proposals” with them.
