ITC Satisfied With C5 Retune
The Independent Television Commission has announced that Channel 5 will be allowed to begin broadcasting on 30 March because it is satisfied that at least 90% of relevant homes have been retuned.
The decision has been taken on the basis of both door to door house calls undertaken by C5 and the results of test transmissions which have been carried out from various transmitters around the UK in recent weeks. A firm of independent consultants, appointed by the ITC, was drafted in to assess C5’s retuning performance.
Once broadcasts start, C5 must continue to retune, free of charge, equipment which suffers interference from their signal, for a further three months. They must use “all reasonable endeavours” to resolve interference complaints within six days, with an absolute limit of fourteen days. The ITC will continue to monitor the retuning programme.
