Virgin Media has announced plans to launch a service to rival Sky Go and Sky Anytime. Virgin TV Anywhere will allow cable TV customers to stream live channels and on-demand content to smartphones, tablets and laptops.
A few hours after Sky unveiled plans to relaunch their set top catch up service, it was revealed Virgin TV Anywhere will offer around 30 channels for live streaming, along with around 2,000 hours of video on-demand content.
Customers will have access to a TiVo style experience on the go. Details are still light but it is thought that the new service will launch online and on Apple iOS devices sometime in the autumn with an Android to follow in early 2012.
