One Line For BT And NI

News International and BT have joined forces to work on LineOne, a mass-market Internet service.

LineOne hopes to provide a fast and easy way for consumers to access the information and entertainment they want, when they want it. The service offers subscribers 24-hour news, sport, entertainment, education and shopping. In addition, there will be access to online editions of The Sun, The Times, The News of The World, The Sunday Times, regularly updated Sky News & Sport, and content from leading third party companies.

Subscribers can also benefit from fast Internet access and e-mail, they can look up national and local listings or educate themselves with the on-line encyclopedia. Users can even choose their lottery numbers with the random number generator.

There will also be the option of creating a personalised service, enabling users to quickly access the most relevant, or exclude unsuitable, information.

British Airways is reported to be one of 7 founder advertiser on LineOne. The rate-card for a month long banner advertisment is £400, but the service is expected to focus on subscriptions as the main source of its revenue. Unlimited access to the site will cost £14.95.
