Readers Sharing Rather Than Buying
A study by the Newspaper Society into single copy sales has reported that regional newspaper readers are buying less frequently or reading someone else’s copy. Jim Chisholm, speaking about the project said: “Readers enjoy the newspaper but are getting out of the habit of buying it, we need to reintroduce the ritual of purchase.”
The report concluded that pass-on readers represented half of all lost sales.
….Newsquest Media Group, one of the 3 largest regional newspaper publishers in Britain, has joined the Newspaper Society’s marketing arm, NS Marketing. This means that NS Marketing now represents 99.2% of Britain’s regional press. The Society established its marketing operation in January last year, launching a major marketing drive on behalf of the regional and local press.
