Solent Radio
The Radio Authority has received 13 applications for the new regional ILR licence for the Solent area. The applicants for the FM licence are:
Crest 105 – (Corporate Radio Ltd, Joseph Swain 01209 314 400): The programme will be centred around melodic contemporary and easy-listening music, with news, weather, travel and leisure for over 35 year-olds.
Heritage 105 – (Heritage Radio South Ltd, Peter Bolton 01305 251 298): This station will be aiming at over 35 year-olds and will have a comprehensive coverage of regional news, current affairs, arts and leisure, featuring classic radio drama and concerts.
Hot 105 FM Ltd – (Tony Dewhurst 01942 629 911): A music-led contemporary youth format playing a wide range of current dance and soul sounds, with key speech elements combining lifestyle information with regional and national news, sport and travel.
K-Max Radio Ltd – (The Mentorn Group, Mike Hughes 0171 306 8003): A music-based service that aims to stay at the forefront of the latest music trends; this will be a youth station that will reflect all aspects of youth culture.
Lighthouse Radio Ltd – (Martin Jay 01703 445 144): A station that hopes to blend classic and contemporary easy-listening music with polished and relevant speech items, designed to appeal to a mature audience.
Live 105 – (Solent Broadcasting Ltd, Khalid Aziz 01962 774 766): An album-led ‘adult alternative’ station mixing the best of classic and modern rock with news, information, humour and concise features.
Marina Radio Ltd – (David Rodgers 01392 444 444): A service of high quality music appealing to a sophisticated audience and offering substantial news, information and feature content.
MTP 105.2 FM – (Metropole Radio Ltd, Felicity Irwin 01258 840 129): A high energy, vibrant dance music station aimed at people under 35. It will include essential news and information relevant to young adults.
Radar 105 FM – (Solent Radio PLC, Peter Scott 01256 771 689): This station hopes to target the 45 to 54 age-group with a combination of classic and contemporary adult rock music and a regional information service.
SFX 105.2 FM – (Solent FM Ltd, Charlie Cox 0171 938 6790): A mix of melodic music featuring soft rock and pop hits of the 70’s 80’s and 90’s, as well as current chart hits.
Shoreline Radio Ltd – (Ron Coles 0115 955 5106): Popular melodic music and relevant speech for listeners aged 40-65 years.
Solent Regional Radio Ltd – (Steve Harris 01962 713 134): A broad mix of soft rock music for 25-54 year olds. There will also be conversation concentrating on lifestyle information and entertainment in the area, as well as a comprehensive news service.
This licence is being offered for the provision of a service covering most of Hampshire, east Dorset, and the Isle of Wight and the south-western corner of West Sussex. The adult population of this area is around 1.35 million.
The Authority welcomes public comments on the proposals.
