YouView launches remote record app

YouView has launched a free app, marking its first foray into companion devices.

The new app, currently available on Apple iOS products, provides listings for over 70 digital TV and radio channels for the next seven days, with full programme information details.

It also allows YouView customers to record their favourite television programmes, onto their YouView set-top box, while on the move.

The release brings the hybrid digital TV service in line with its subscription based competitors; BSkyB has been running various second screen services since Sky Player launched in January 2006 while Virgin TV released their On Demand app in November this year.

Although unlike its two main rivals, the YouView app does not currently allow playback of a user’s recorded or on demand content on the go.

Richard Halton, Chief Executive Officer, YouView said, “We are really excited about our new YouView App – it gives customers a new way to find the content they love and the flexibility to record programmes on the go.

“This is just the first stage in our companion device strategy, offering even more value to UK consumers, and we plan to extend the functionality of this app as part of our on-going development of the YouView proposition.”

YouView offers seven day catch-up from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 as well as a library of on demand television programmes, films and radio. The easy-to-use TV service has record, pause and rewind TV functionality as well as a simple search feature.

The YouView App is compatible with all YouView set-top boxes – it was developed at YouView and securely connects up to 5 mobile devices.
