Boots Opens Virtual Store

Boots is the first retailer to trial an interactive home shopping service. The experiment begins in the Kingston Upon Hull area on 16 April.

The system carrying the service operates through the customer’s television and telephone wire. TV’s are fitted with a set-top box and viewers are given a special remote control unit to gain access and navigate the virtual store.

Products can be ordered 24 hours a day from the virtual Boots, which is similar in design and layout to the stores on the high street. Boots will deliver, between 8am and 9pm, any of the 4,000 products on offer.

If the trial is successful Boots are planning to offer the service nationally next year.
