In the wake of Liberty Global’s proposed acquisition of Virgin Media, the UK telecommunications company has released its latest financial results.
At the end of December 2012 Virgin Media boasted 3.8 million TV customers, a year on year rise of only 1%.
Despite this, the release details how Virgin’s TiVo service is driving pay TV growth, with 896,000 new customers signing up in 2012.187,300 of those only signed up in the fourth quarter.
This brings the total number of Virgin Media TiVo subscribers to 1.3 million, 35% of its entire TV customer base.
2012 saw the launch of Virgin TV Anywhere, allowing Virgin Media TiVo customers to connect to their TiVo boxes to manage their recordings wherever they are.
Today it had been confirmed Liberty Global is committed to keeping the Virgin Media brand in the UK as it agreed a $23.3 billion cash and stock bid for the UK cable operator.
