TV Viewing Summary – W/E 29/06/97
Coronation Street takes the top three places this week, commanding a very respectable average of 14.77 million viewers over its four episodes. Eastenders achieved an average of 13.86 million, with Emmerdale scoring 11.07 million over three episodes.
A new series of the West country crime mysteries, Wycliffe, made by HTV, gives ITV the top drama of the week, watched by 11.28 million. The BBC’s Dalziel and Pascoe continues to lose ground this week only watched by 9.57 million, even the repeats of Frost do better (10.31 million). Only Fools and Horses is the top comedy of the week watched by 9.65 million,Birds of a Feather looks firmly set to remain at the bottom end of the charts (8.15 million), still, maybe this will be its last outing for a while. The return of the classic Pie In The Sky on BBC1 has initially failed to attract the audience it deserves, watched by 7.54 million this week.
The Channel 4 chart sees the Ricki Lake show creeping into the last two places, Thursday and Fridays episodes were watched by 2.85 and 2.90 million respectively. Channel 4’s overall figures are on the up this week, with Friday’s Countdown pulling in 4.50 million viewers, with Wednesday and Thursdays shows both achieving audiences over the 4 million mark.
Channel 5 continues to soldier on, the top programme of the week being the film Starman , watched by 1.33 million. The rest of its own top ten is, as usual, filled up with mostly second rate films; the supernatural drama Poltergeist: Legacy (0.99 million) seems to be just about the only show to regularly attract an audience around the million mark.
