Samsung to launch TV Discovery service

Samsung has announced that it will be introducing a ‘TV Discovery’ service as it showcases new products at the Mobile World Congress 2013.

Samsung’s TV Discovery, expected to launch later this year, will set out to create a “faster and easier” way for users to find and watch video and live TV content, complete with the ability to search across multiple content providers on both Samsung smartphone devices and Smart TVs.

The service will work by simplifying the content search progress and providing programme information from a number of content sources, including linear TV, video-on-demand and online video platforms such as YouTube.

TV Discovery features will also include a cross-device experience that will enable users to exchange content between connected devices such as televisions and smartphones; a universal remote control which connects to all major media devices; personalised recommendations for the user; and the option to share activity with friends via social platforms.

Simon Stanford, Vice President of IM division, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland said: “More and more people are starting to expect the same experience from each and every screen they own – whether it’s their smartphone and tablet, TV or camera.

“TV Discovery is bringing that demand ever closer to becoming a reality, by giving our customers the opportunity to search for and enjoy their favourite TV shows or the latest films wherever they are, whether that’s on the commute into work or sat in their living room.”

TV Discovery will initially accumulate content from Netflix and Blockbuster in the US, and services such as MovieMax, FilmIn and SF Anytime in Europe.
