The ITC Publishes Its Views On Channel 4 Funding
The ITC has published a letter sent to Chris Smith, the national heritage secretary today, in response to his request for industry opinion on the Channel 4 funding formula.
The letter states: “The Commission sees no basis for continuing the funding arrangements in their present form beyond the end of 1997, and we believe that they should be phased out over the next year or two. However, we also believe that it is important that Channel 4 should seize the opportunity of significant increase in its resources by deploying these additional funds on a carefully considered set of programme priorities which will further develop its statutory remit. The phasing out of the formula would also provide an opportunity for more resources to be allocated to digital terrestrial TV through the guaranteed multiplex which has now been awarded to Channels 3 and 4 on a co-operative basis.”
