At this year’s Mobile World Congress 2013, Samgung has announced that it will be launching a HomeSync system, challenging other home media services such as Apple TV.
The home cloud solution will offer a shared storage system by which users will be able to sync to multiple devices, allowing them to upload and download content to share with other users of the hub.
The 1TB HomeSync device aims to provide users with a “new way of enjoying” high definition television through an Android experience, and will also offer Android games, films and television.
Available in time for the new Samsung Galaxy 4 which is set to hit the shops this March, users will be able to stream content from Galaxy devices directly to their televisions, allowing them to view videos, photos and apps via TV sets.
But for those that don’t wish to share content, the hub also comes with a private storage feature where users can keep content in a password-protected area.
“HomeSync is a really exciting addition to the Samsung portfolio,” said Simon Stanford, Vice President of IM division at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland.
“As the number of smart devices that a person owns continues to grow, sharing and streaming content will become even more popular, creating demand for somewhere that all this content can be stored safely and readily accessed.
“HomeSync was borne from our experience across multiple markets, including mobile, digital imaging and TV, enabling us to create a single connected media environment, where people’s content is accessible at any time through whichever screen they choose.”
HomeSync will be available from April 2013 across the US and is expected to integrate into the UK market in due course.
