Channel 5’s coverage of the European Championships qualifier between Luxembourg and England last night was watched by an average of 5.31 million people, with a peak audience between 9pm and 9:15pm of 6.13 million, according to unofficial overnight terrestrial viewing data.

Channel 5’s controller of sport, Robert Charles, said: “This is a fantastic result all round and confirms Channel 5’s position as a supplier of top quality free-to-air football coverage.”
The channel also has exclusive coverage of England’s home game against Bulgaria on 9 June 1999, and the final qualifying game against Poland on 8 September next year.
