Talk Radio Gets A Slap On The Bum By The ASA
The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that Talk Radio is to be subjected to pre-vetting of all its advertisements after the radio group ran an ad featuring a woman’s naked backside stamped with a bar code.
Following new sanctions introduced in June this year (see Newsline), the Committee of Advertising Practice will now pre-vet all subsequent campaigns for two years of those parties that produce shocking or offensive poster campaigns.
The first group to be subjected to these new measures was the Commission For Racial Equality (CRE) in September after it ran an ad campaign featuring racial stereotypes (see Talk Radio will not be able to display any of its future posters until they have been certified as conforming to guidelines laid down by the ASA.”
Talk Radio seems unperturbed by the development, and a spokesperson told Newsline this afternoon:”Talk Radio feels that its poster campaign has been very successful, and has attracted new listeners. It wasn’t meant to be offensive, and was intended to inject an element of humour into the subject of prostitution.”
